Meta has announced the global launch of a voice dubbing feature for Reels videos. This technology uses generative AI to translate the user's voice while synchronizing lip movements.
To utilize this feature, users must select the "Translate your voice using Meta AI" option before publishing their video. The tool then creates a translated audio track that maintains the original voice's intonation. Users also have the option to activate lip-syncing with the translated audio.
Before publishing, creators can preview the result and decide whether to add lip synchronization. A notification indicating the use of AI appears in the translated video.
The feature is currently available for content creators on Facebook with over 1000 followers, as well as for all users with public accounts on Instagram. Meta recommends using the tool in videos that directly address the camera, without distracting background music or speech obstructions. The system supports up to two speakers but advises against overlapping voices.
Meta positions this new feature as a tool for expanding content audiences beyond the creator's native language. An effectiveness tool for translation across languages has also been implemented.
Initially, the translation feature is only available for English and Spanish, but the company plans to expand language support in the future.
