OpenAI has announced remarkable growth in the popularity of ChatGPT, which this week reached 700 million active users weekly, according to TechCrunch.

Vice President Nick Turley noted that at the end of March, the number was 500 million, quadrupling over the year. Turley emphasized that daily, individuals and teams utilize ChatGPT for learning, creativity, and solving complex problems.

The rapid rise in popularity is attributed to the launch of the updated image generation feature based on the GPT-4 model in March. Users quickly became interested: in just a few days following the launch, over 700 million images were created, and the number of people who took advantage of the new capability exceeded 130 million.

The base of paid business users is also growing: last week, COO Brad Lightcap reported 5 million subscribers, up from 3 million in June.

According to analytics company Sensor Tower, the average ChatGPT user accesses the app more than 12 days per month. In this regard, it only trails Google and X. In the first half of 2025, the average usage time was 16 minutes per day, indicating high user engagement.

Thus, ChatGPT remains one of the most popular consumer AI services, and OpenAI continues to actively enhance its functionality and expand its audience.
