OpenAI has confirmed that GPT-5 is set to launch this summer. The new model aims to integrate the key advancements of previous versions, including the multimodality of GPT-4 and the logical capabilities of the "o" series. According to BleepingComputer, the company intends to create a single powerful model that eliminates the need to switch between different versions.
Romain Yue, head of developer relations at OpenAI, stated that the goal is not just to create a new flagship model but to unify all existing series into one.
He emphasized that GPT-5 promises to be a "breakthrough in reasoning" and a "breakthrough in multimodality".
On Reddit, the company’s vice president, Jerry Twork, added that GPT-5 is expected to enhance all current capabilities, making them better and more user-friendly while eliminating the need for switching.
While the exact release date has not been disclosed, OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman previously hinted that the launch is scheduled for summer 2025.
