President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with the Ukrainian deaflympic team, who achieved an impressive total of 100 medals at the 25th Summer Deaflympics in Tokyo, leading among all teams.
“You overcome difficulties, fear, and despair every day, achieving remarkable results on the sports field. Your accomplishments prove that Ukrainians are a nation of winners,” the President emphasized.
Zelensky congratulated the athletes on their victories and expressed gratitude on behalf of all Ukrainians for their perseverance and achievements.
“This is a celebration for the entire country, especially in these challenging times when we need victories. You remind the world of our fight for dignity and life,” he added.
The head of state awarded the athletes with orders of “For Merit” of various degrees and the Order of Princess Olga.
Additionally, Zelensky presented awards to the team's coaches, including orders of “For Merit” and the title of “Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of Ukraine.”
At the 25th Summer Deaflympics, the Ukrainian team, consisting of 174 athletes, won 32 gold, 39 silver, and 29 bronze medals, ranking first among 81 countries for the number of gold medals and total medals. Nine Ukrainian athletes set eight world records and 12 deaflympic records.
