A remarkable tale of resilience and motivation – 25-year-old Ukrainian powerlifter Dmytro Polovych, who has a severe form of cerebral palsy, proved that limits are only in our minds.
On Sunday, November 2, at the world powerlifting championship in Budapest, he achieved an outstanding victory and set a world record in deadlifting for athletes with CP.
Polovych became the first person in his category to lift 105 kilograms. His attempt stirred a wave of emotions in the audience, and the video of the record went viral on social media, garnering thousands of likes and comments.
Dmytro expressed heartfelt gratitude in his Instagram post: "This story would not be possible without you. I want to thank everyone who wrote, believed, and supported me emotionally. Your energy was felt from afar! Special thanks to my coaches – Anna Kurkurina and Tetiana Fuzi, who walked this path with me side by side! And a huge thank you to everyone who supported my trip financially. Without you, I wouldn't have stood on this platform. This victory is yours as much as it is mine! We did this together!"
We also recall a touching moment from the recent Ukrainian grappling championship for children aged 12-13 in Khmelnytskyi, where a boy showed true sportsmanship by conceding victory to an opponent who could not compete due to injury.
