Elina Svitolina (13) has made it to the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal, Canada. In the fourth round, she defeated American player Amanda Anisimova (7), a finalist at Wimbledon 2025.

The match lasted 1 hour and 27 minutes, concluding with a score of 6:4, 6:1.

Despite the convincing score, the match was far from easy for Elina. The players exchanged breaks at the beginning of the first set, and in the 7th and 8th games, both held their serves despite several break points. With a score of 5:4 in her favor, Svitolina converted her second set point in a tough game to take the first set, 6:4.

The second set, while two games shorter than the first, lasted 3 minutes longer. The reason was that at 1:1, Svitolina's serve was fiercely contested for over 10 minutes, starting from 40:0. Elina finally won the game on her eighth game point, having saved three break points from Anisimova.

Right after that, Svitolina broke serve and held her own despite facing a double break point from her opponent. Once she reached 4:1, the match became much easier. Svitolina advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament in Montreal.

Throughout the match, she served 4 aces, made 3 double faults, and achieved 4 breaks. Her opponent recorded 4 aces, 4 service errors, and 1 break from 9 opportunities.

This was the fifth meeting between the players, with four victories for the Ukrainian. In the next round, Svitolina will face Naomi Osaka (49, Japan).

The 30-year-old Ukrainian has reached the quarterfinals of a WTA 1000 tournament for the fourth time this season and for the fourth time in her career at this stage of a Canadian “thousand” event (the tournaments in Montreal and Toronto alternate years).

It is worth noting that in the second round of the tournament in Montreal, Elina defeated Russian player Kamila Rahimova (62), and in the third round, she decisively beat another representative of the aggressor country, Anna Kalinskaya (31).

Another Ukrainian, Marta Kostyuk, also reached the quarterfinals of the Canadian tournament after a hard-fought victory over McCartney Kessler (32, USA).
