FIDE Women's World Cup: A New Chapter Begins

Information about the third FIDE Women's World Cup taking place in Baku with participation from five Ukrainian chess players.

The third FIDE Women's World Cup will kick off on July 6, featuring five Ukrainian chess players.

The federation's press service has released the tournament grid.

Maria and Anna Muzychuk will start their journey from the second round due to their high ratings. The former world champion will face the winner of the matchup between Mungunzul and Cervantes Landeiro, while Anna will compete against Zal Urkh or another Ukrainian, Inna Gaponenko.

Another former champion, Anna Ushenina, will play in the first round against Jesse Nikki February from South Africa, and Yulia Osmak will challenge the winner of the duel between Kory and Wang.

The World Cup will take place in Baku using a knockout format, with two classical games (90 minutes + 30 minutes after the 40th move, +30 seconds for each subsequent move), and in case of a draw, additional rapid and blitz games will be played.

The total prize fund for the tournament is $691,250, with the winner receiving a grand prize of $50,000.

In the 2021 World Cup, Russian player Alexandra Kosteniuk emerged victorious, while in 2023, Alexandra Goryachkina, also from Russia, took the title.

In June, Anna Muzychuk participated in the team world championship, securing third place in rapid.
