Renowned Ukrainian chess player Vasily Ivanchuk is making headlines in the chess world with his recent achievements, winning the German team championship in blitz that took place at the beginning of 2025.

According to Chessdom, the grandmaster, famously known as "Big Chucky," participated in the tournament as part of the SC Remagen Sinzig team. Although his team and SG Solingen ended up with the same number of points, Remagen Sinzig secured the title with a higher number of game points.

The tournament was played in blitz format, where players had three minutes per game with an additional two seconds for each move made. A game point in chess serves as an indicator of a player's advantage on the board, as assessed by a computer.

It is noteworthy that Ivanchuk played 25 games during the tournament, achieving 20 points without a single defeat.

Additionally, in April, Ivanchuk finished second in a tournament in Reykjavik and won the Menorca Open 2025.
