Ukrainian swimmer Andriy Govorov has officially announced his retirement from the Olympic career. He shared this on his Instagram page.
Govorov made this announcement a month after expressing his desire to compete in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. The decision was prompted by several changes in the Olympic program, particularly the addition of the 50-meter butterfly event, which is his specialty.
However, the athlete will not participate in the qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games. He mentioned that while competing in Los Angeles was a dream for him, new plans have arisen in his life.
"This was not an easy decision. It has been a journey filled with sacrifice and purpose. Thank you to everyone who was a part of this. I pondered long and hard, weighing everything that mattered to me. Competing in Los Angeles was my dream, but life had other plans for me", — Govorov stated.
Govorov emphasized that he is ending his Olympic career specifically. He did not clarify whether he will participate in other competitions.
