President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a new bill concerning adaptive sports, aimed at engaging veterans and individuals with disabilities in athletic activities.

The document officially recognizes adaptive sports as a significant form of physical activity, as reported by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine.

This category of sports promotes rehabilitation and social inclusion for people with disabilities, encouraging their active participation in society.

The bill supplements the existing regulation on "Physical Culture and Sports", outlining:

  • the responsibilities of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in coordinating adaptive sports development initiatives;
  • the agencies that will organize related events;
  • the obligations of local authorities to provide conditions for adaptive sports development;
  • the role of sports federations in supporting adaptive sports.

Moreover, the law stipulates that conditions for engaging in adaptive sports must be established in the living areas of veterans and individuals with disabilities, as well as in sanatoriums, leisure facilities, and tourist centers.

"Adaptive sports will now serve as a vital means for individuals with disabilities to restore their physical and mental health and will support their successful self-realization. This is a significant step toward building an effective adaptive sports system in Ukraine," the Ministry of Veterans Affairs explained.
