A 63-year-old woman in the Kyiv region is being prosecuted for allegedly murdering her newborn grandson. She faces a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
This was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police and the regional prosecutor's office.
Investigators established that in November 2024, the grandmother was alone at home with the infant, who was only a week old.
“While alone with the baby, she inflicted injuries to the child's head and body with a wooden chair. After that, she moved the boy to the bedroom and laid him in the crib, where he died from the injuries sustained,” the prosecutor's office stated.
Authorities reported that the woman was under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The prosecutors have filed an indictment against the grandmother for the intentional murder of a minor child with particular cruelty (Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). She faces a sentence of 15 years in prison.
The accused is currently in custody without the right to bail.
