Agricultural Developments in Ukraine: New Sowing Heights

The dynamics of sowing spring grains and legumes in Ukraine as of April 2025.

As of April 4, farmers across Ukraine have sown over 926 thousand hectares of spring cereals and have begun sunflower planting.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, barley occupies the largest area — 551.8 thousand hectares. Spring wheat has been sown on 116.5 thousand hectares, peas on 164.3 thousand hectares, and oats on 82.3 thousand hectares.

Leading regions in terms of sowing pace:

Odessa region: 92.3 thousand hectares (wheat — 5.8 thousand hectares, barley — 30.1 thousand hectares, peas — 51.9 thousand hectares, oats — 1.3 thousand hectares);

Ternopil region: 87.4 thousand hectares (wheat — 14 thousand hectares, barley — 63.8 thousand hectares, peas — 4.1 thousand hectares, oats — 5.1 thousand hectares);

Poltava region: 83.2 thousand hectares (wheat — 4.2 thousand hectares, barley — 66.5 thousand hectares, peas — 9.4 thousand hectares, oats — 3.1 thousand hectares);

Mykolaiv region: 73.6 thousand hectares (wheat — 4.5 thousand hectares, barley — 42 thousand hectares, peas — 26.5 thousand hectares, oats — 0.6 thousand hectares);

Vinnytsia region: 72.6 thousand hectares (wheat — 11.5 thousand hectares, barley — 53 thousand hectares, peas — 7 thousand hectares, oats — 1.1 thousand hectares).

Additionally, sunflowers have been sown on 33 thousand hectares, sugar beets on 64.8 thousand hectares, and soybeans on 2.6 thousand hectares.

As a reminder, it is planned to sow over 5.7 million hectares of spring grains and legumes by 2025, corresponding to the level of 2024.
