On June 6 at 19:00, PEN Ukraine (Kyiv, Lukyanivska St., 14-A) will host the opening of the exhibition by former soldier and photographer Dmytro “Orest” Kozatsky titled “I Hate Photographing”. This was announced on the event's Facebook page.

During the opening, there will be a public discussion with Dmytro, where attendees can ask questions and learn about the role of photography in war and how it can freeze time and capture the truth.

The discussion will be moderated by Alim Aliyev, a journalist and human rights activist involved in cultural projects. He serves as the Deputy Director General of the Ukrainian Institute and is the founder of the literary project “Crimean Fig”.

Dmytro “Orest” Kozatsky is a veteran and military photographer known for his iconic photos from “Azovstal” that became the voice of Mariupol to the world. After a prolonged defense, he was captured by Russian forces and was released in 2022. He continues to engage in public and cultural activities. Dmytro’s works have received several awards, including two International Photography Awards. His photograph “Light Will Prevail” was recognized as one of the best in 2022 by the British publication The Guardian and was included in the “100 Best Photos of 2022” list by the American magazine Time.

Participation requires a voluntary charitable contribution and registration.

As part of this event, the organizers are supporting Dmytro Kozatsky's fundraising for the medical service of “Azov”.
