As part of its new approach to resolving the conflict, the United States plans to demand that Russia, among other things, recognize Ukraine's right to its own armed forces and defense industry, as well as return the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to Kyiv.
Source: Bloomberg, citing informed sources, reports "European Truth".
Details: As agency sources indicate, US Special Envoy Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff, will raise this issue during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Additionally, sources report that the US wants Russia to return the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant under Ukraine's control.
Subsequently, according to the Trump administration's plan, the plant is to be placed under American control to supply electricity to both Ukrainian and Russian-occupied cities, sources say.
The US also seeks to ensure Ukraine's access to the Dnipro River and to regain control of the territories in the Kharkiv region occupied by Russia.
Representatives from the US National Security Council, State Department, and Witkoff have not responded to requests for comment.
Earlier, media reported that the Trump administration handed Ukraine a one-page document last week in Paris, presented as a "final offer" for peace settlement. Among other things, the US is prepared to recognize Russia's control over Crimea and ease sanctions against Moscow.
President Zelensky stated that Ukraine does not recognize the Russian occupation of Crimea, which is internationally acknowledged as Ukrainian territory.
The Financial Times reports that some European officials worry that disagreements over the unilateral "peace agreement" project of the Trump administration, which includes recognizing Crimea as part of Russia, could undermine transatlantic security and jeopardize the NATO summit at the end of June.
