The French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, at a joint press conference with his British counterpart David Lammy, stated that the "Coalition of the Resolute" is actively working on potential monitoring methods for an upcoming ceasefire.
He emphasized that Russia must respond promptly to the U.S. proposals, even if the answer is negative.
Barrot stressed that "Russia needs to decide quickly – yes or no".
However, he expressed doubts about the Kremlin's genuine readiness for peace. According to him, Putin's actions, such as strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure and the announcement of the largest military draft in 14 years, indicate a reluctance to negotiate.
The French Foreign Minister noted that Ukraine has taken a significant step forward by agreeing to the U.S. proposal for an unconditional ceasefire, while Russia continues to ignore this initiative, attacking critical infrastructure and committing war crimes.
Barrot emphasized that such behavior contradicts any agreements made.
On Friday, military representatives from the countries participating in the "Coalition of the Resolute" are set to arrive in Kyiv to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine. He stated that "a strong Ukrainian army is the first level of ensuring peace".
He also added that France and Britain are in constant coordination with the U.S. regarding potential scenarios for monitoring the ceasefire.
It is worth noting that Finnish President Alexander Stubb announced that the "Coalition of the Willing" has decided that at least one European leader must engage in dialogue with Russia.
Additionally, we have reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shared the outcomes of the latest summit of the "Coalition of the Resolute".
