On Wednesday, July 9, Pope Leo XIV held an audience at his residence in Castel Gandolfo with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
This was reported by Vatican News, referencing the Holy See's press office.
The parties discussed the ongoing war and the urgent need to find lasting and just solutions for peace.
«During the heartfelt conversation, the importance of dialogue as the best path to ceasefire was reaffirmed. The Holy Father expressed his sorrow for the victims and renewed his prayers and closeness to the Ukrainian people, supporting all efforts aimed at the release of prisoners and the search for common solutions», the communiqué following the meeting stated.
The Holy Father also reiterated his readiness to receive representatives from Russia and Ukraine in the Vatican for negotiations.
