The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, confirmed that Ukraine has met all the necessary tasks and deserves the opening of the first negotiation cluster with the EU, which Hungary is currently blocking.
Von der Leyen made this statement at a press conference following the EU leaders' meeting in Brussels, as reported by "European Truth".
She emphasized that Ukraine continues to implement crucial reforms under constant pressure.
"This is truly impressive. That is why we at the European Commission advocate for the opening of the first negotiation cluster. Ukraine has fulfilled its part – now it is our turn. The accession process is based on merit, and Ukraine deserves to move forward," von der Leyen stated.
It is worth noting that during the summit in Brussels on June 26, 26 EU leaders supported opening the first cluster in the accession talks with Ukraine, but Hungary blocked this decision.
The Ukrainian government is still hopeful for the opening of the first negotiation cluster.
Hungary remains determined to continue blocking Ukraine's progress in the EU, as discussed in the article "The EU between Orban and Trump".
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated on Thursday that the results of the so-called "referendum" on Ukraine's EU membership empowered him to speak even louder against Ukraine's accession.
