On April 13, 2025, a missile strike on Sumy resulted in the death of talented musician Olena Kohut. She was a soloist-organist of the regional philharmonic and taught at a college.
Her colleagues from the Sumy National Theater and the regional philharmonic announced her passing.
"This day brought us indescribable pain. Olena was a bright person, a true professional, and a reliable friend. Her music and smile will forever remain in our hearts," the theater stated.
Colleagues from the Sumy College of Arts also expressed their condolences, describing her as an energetic and creative pianist.
They emphasized that Olena was not just a teacher, but a true mentor to her students, helping them unlock their potential.
"Her performances always captivated audiences, and her kindness inspired everyone around her," they added.
Olena performed abroad, singing the Ukrainian anthem in historic places, promoting Ukrainian culture.
She is survived by her mother, husband, and sons.
Colleagues promise to announce the date and place of her farewell soon.
