A demonstration of the latest version of the Ukrainian interceptor drone Octopus took place in Kyiv for a British delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy, as reported by the Ministry of Defense.
The Octopus drone, developed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, is equipped with an artificial intelligence-based control system.
It is designed to counter Shahed-type drones, with its effectiveness confirmed in combat.
The collaboration between manufacturers and the military allows for continuous improvement of this technology and creates a high-efficiency RnD ecosystem.
Production of the drone is being established in both Ukraine and Great Britain.
The transfer of technology for Octopus production to British enterprises was made possible due to reforms in the Ministry of Defense's intellectual property sector.

In May 2025, a specialized Intellectual Property Management Office was created within the Ministry. Experts ensured compliance with legal aspects during the licensing agreement negotiations with the British government, including:

  • legal protection of technology in Ukraine;
  • filing for international patent registration;
  • support for the licensing agreement with the UK Ministry of Defense.

In November 2025, delegations from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and the UK Ministry of Defense signed a licensing agreement for the Octopus interceptor drone, paving the way for its production in Great Britain. Production volumes could reach several thousand drones per month. The manufactured units will be delivered to Ukraine to enhance aerial defense. The Ministry notes that this is the first such agreement regarding technologies owned by the state, opening new opportunities for bilateral defense technology exchange with partner countries.
