In just three weeks since the launch of the «3000 km Across Ukraine» program, thousands of Ukrainians have taken advantage of it, purchasing 40,000 train tickets. This equates to transporting passengers in approximately 740 economy class or 1,111 sleeper cars.
Among the more than 20 available routes, the most popular are:
- Fastiv — Konotop
- Odesa — Zaporizhzhia
- Kyiv / Zhmerinka — Shostka
- Zaporizhzhia — Lviv
- Sumy — Rakhiv
The «3000 km Across Ukraine» program is part of the state initiative «Winter Support». The first trains under this program were launched on December 5. Initially, the program focuses on routes to and from frontline communities.
As noted by Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine Oleksii Kuleba, there are plans to expand support across the entire country.
“In off-peak periods, Ukrzaliznytsia will be able to offer around 250,000 seats per month. This creates opportunities for Ukrainians to travel at affordable prices, while also reducing the burden on peak transport” - stated the Minister.
Free travel within the 3000 km initiative is available during off-peak times and primarily focuses on routes leading to frontline communities. Tickets can be purchased through the Ukrzaliznytsia app.
The program aims to support residents of communities located near the front line and allows for a more even distribution of passenger traffic while making better use of existing railway resources. The routes for the pilot launch were determined based on an analysis of train occupancy, with special attention paid to the needs of frontline regions. The implementation of the program takes place without requiring additional state budget funds.
