The Security Service of Ukraine has revealed new information regarding the operation that resulted in the destruction of a Russian submarine in the port of Novorossiysk. It turned out that the success of the mission was preceded by the neutralization of the only reconnaissance aircraft IL-38N capable of detecting underwater drones.
This was reported by reliable sources.
According to the information, a critical phase of the preparation involved hitting the upgraded anti-submarine aircraft IL-38N Sea Dragon at the Yeisk airbase. This plane, valued at approximately 24 million dollars, was the only vessel of its kind in the Black Sea equipped with radars for locating submarines and marine drones.
This aircraft actively interfered with the operations of Ukrainian drones. Employees of the 13th Main Directorate of the Military Counterintelligence Department of the SBU employed a drone with an explosive charge to attack it.
"The explosion occurred directly above the compartment with the main equipment and radars, and also damaged the engine. Two thousand shrapnel elements were directed downward, incapacitating the critical systems of the aircraft," — stated the SBU.
The Security Service incapacitated the submarine "Varshavyanka" in Novorossiysk due to the prior destruction of the reconnaissance aircraft IL-38N in Yeisk. The neutralization of the only vessel of its kind in the Black Sea allowed the underwater drone Sub Sea Baby to stealthily reach the port and successfully hit its target.
Released footage of the attack on the Yeisk airbase disproves claims by the Russian Ministry of Defense about the high level of security for strategic facilities.
