The Netherlands has officially launched a mission to secure a vital logistics hub in Poland, through which military aid to Ukraine is being sent from NATO countries, deploying Patriot and NASAMS air defense systems.

This was announced by the Dutch Ministry of Defense, stating that the mission began on December 1, 2025, and will last until June 1, 2026.

"The Netherlands is ensuring the protection of the logistics hub supporting Ukraine with two air defense systems, Patriot and NASAMS, drone countermeasures, and 300 military personnel," the announcement stated.

It is noted that these forces are stationed near the Rzeszów-Jasionka airport, a key transit point for international assistance.

"The Netherlands is providing advanced capabilities for multi-layered air defense. In doing so, we are safeguarding logistical supplies to Ukraine, defending NATO's eastern flank, and enhancing our own preparedness. This is one of the first instances where we are simultaneously deploying such a combination of systems. We are showing Russia that attacking this center is futile. This strengthens the security of Poland, Ukraine, NATO, and the Netherlands," said Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brakelmans.

The Dutch contribution involves creating an integrated unit with three different components. In addition to the two Patriot systems, this includes the NASAMS system and anti-drone technologies. Together with partners, the Netherlands is providing multi-layered air defense against potential threats — ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, fighter jets, helicopters, and drones.

Various NATO countries are taking turns safeguarding this logistics center. Before the Netherlands, Germany fulfilled this role, utilizing some of the mentioned assets. NATO still has to determine which country will take over after June 1, 2026.

It is noted that previously the Netherlands protected Polish airspace by deploying F-35 fighters. This F-35 squadron is now being phased out. Together with Norwegian colleagues, the Netherlands controlled NATO's airspace from September 1 to December 1, 2025. This deployment was also aimed at deterring Russia and protecting military equipment heading to Ukraine.
