As of this morning, the death toll from the fire in Hong Kong has risen to 55, according to The Guardian reporting from local authorities. An additional 72 individuals have been injured.
The fire broke out in a residential complex of 2000 apartments yesterday, November 26, during the day. This complex housed more than 4600 residents.
Over 200 people were considered missing as of this morning.
Out of the 55 victims, 51 died at the scene and four in hospitals, adds NBC News.
The buildings were constructed using flammable bamboo, which may have aided in the rapid spread of the fire. The police have arrested three representatives of the construction company responsible for the complex: two directors and an engineering consultant.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
It is reported that at least one victim was a firefighter who was battling the flames. His death was reported as of yesterday.
