In Kyiv, according to the plans for current and capital repairs in 2025, accessibility measures will be implemented at more than 700 locations. This information was shared by the KCSA press service, referencing Kyivavtodor.
The capital repair of each site is conducted comprehensively: road surfaces, sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, lighting, utilities, and cycling infrastructure are all being updated.
Special emphasis is placed on implementing measures to create an accessible environment. This includes lowering curbs, installing tactile navigation systems, ramps, and elevators. Representatives from public organizations advocating for the rights of people with visual impairments and wheelchair users are always involved in inspecting these implementations.
Moreover, one of the key approaches to conducting repairs remains the linear principle. This involves comprehensive modernization of not only the main transport routes and junctions but also adjacent streets. The current repair plan for 2025 includes updates to nearly 50 sites.
Creating an accessible and safe environment, particularly at transportation infrastructure sites, is part of the systematic work of city services, which is included in the Action Plan for creating an accessible space in Kyiv, approved by the Mayor Vitali Klitschko. This document defines specific measures aimed at gradually making Kyiv accessible to everyone, as well as the responsible parties and effectiveness indicators.
