Due to financial difficulties, Ukrzaliznytsia has decided to implement a new strategy for increasing ticket prices for passengers. Sergey Leshchenko, a member of the supervisory board, announced this during his speech in parliament.
"We plan to revise the pricing policy for SV class cars and the first class of 'Intercity'. This is a step towards improving our financial situation, but not the final solution," he emphasized.
As of the end of the first nine months of 2025, the company's net loss amounted to 7.1 billion UAH, while losses from passenger transportation reached 18 billion UAH in 2024.
To address this situation, Leshchenko also suggests optimizing internal processes, including the sale of scrap metal, which is expected to generate up to 10 billion UAH. Additionally, compensation from the state budget for transportation losses stands at 16 billion UAH.
He also mentioned plans for gradual increases in freight tariffs in two phases - first by 27%, then by 11%. This, along with rising production prices, could yield around 22 billion UAH.
