The US military has killed four individuals during an operation targeting a drug trafficking boat in the eastern Pacific Ocean. This was reported by US Secretary of Defense Pete Gheskett on the social media platform X.
According to him, the vessel was involved in illegal drug smuggling and was traveling along a notorious trafficking route.
The Secretary shared a 22-second video showing the boat exploding in international waters.
This strike occurred following earlier US attacks this week that resulted in 14 casualties in the region, as reported by DW.
The latest operation has raised the death toll from Washington's anti-drug campaign to at least 62.
Additionally, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced the interception of three aircraft allegedly used for drug trafficking.
There is a significant buildup of US military forces near Venezuela, which the US has termed an anti-drug operation, including seven US Navy warships, F-35 stealth fighters, and the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford.
Caracas fears this may be a cover for military actions aimed at removing Maduro from power.
