On Sunday, two separate incidents involving US military aircraft occurred over the South China Sea. CBS News reports that these events unfolded while routine operations were in progress.
The first incident involved the MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter from the 73rd Helicopter Strike Squadron, which crashed around 2:45 PM local time.
About thirty minutes later, an F/A-18F Super Hornet fighter jet from the 22nd Strike Fighter Squadron also went down during similar operations, according to the Navy.
All five crew members from both aircraft were rescued by search and rescue teams and are currently in stable condition. The causes of the crashes are under investigation.
