Border guards are warning about growing queues at the border with Poland due to the introduction of a new entry system for EU countries, as well as the upcoming holidays and the start of autumn breaks.
In the Lviv region, queues have formed at the border due to the new entry system to the EU. The biometric control system EES, which records the crossing of the external borders of the Schengen area without stamping passports, is already fully operational at the Polish checkpoints «Medika» and «Korczowa» and at the railway station «Przemyśl».
At other border checkpoints adjacent to Lviv region, the system is currently operating in a testing mode.
«During the first entry into EU countries after the launch of the EES, citizens undergo an extended registration process, which includes photographing the face and taking four fingerprints. This procedure applies to individuals aged 12 and over and requires additional time, which affects the speed of processing travelers,» - said representatives of the 7th Mountain Border Guard Detachment.
The EES system will apply to all citizens of third countries, including Ukraine, who cross the external borders of the Schengen area for short-term stays - up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
Current information about the situation at the border can be tracked on the official pages of the border guards: the Western Regional Department of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine - Western Border and the 7th Mountain Border Guard Detachment.
