The League of Ukrainian Women in America urges the US presidential administration to reconsider its decision and fully restore previously suspended aid to Ukraine.
“We call on the US Congress to publicly and firmly support Ukraine by resuming military and humanitarian assistance, as well as continuing intelligence sharing with this key ally facing aggression,” the statement reads.
The decision by the US could lead to the “destruction of political norms, international relations, and alliances” that have guaranteed the security of the United States and supported global stability since World War II, the organization emphasizes.
“A sudden and unilateral cessation of military aid to Ukraine will not only inflict devastating harm but also undermine the reputation of the US and destroy trust among allies that has been built over 80 years,” the statement continues.
The refusal to support Ukraine demonstrates “weakness and unreliability on the part of the US,” strengthening the positions of adversaries such as Russia, Iran, North Korea, and China at the expense of the United States itself.
“This is a catastrophic path not just for Ukraine, but for US security as well,” the organization stresses.
The US Congress is mandated to defend the system of checks and balances enshrined in the Constitution and to hold the president accountable for adhering to international obligations and enacted laws, the authors of the statement remind.
On March 3, 2025, President Donald Trump ordered a halt to all military aid to Ukraine, assistance that had already been approved by Congress and promised to Ukraine by former President Joe Biden on behalf of the American people.
