The electricity supply situation in Ukraine may worsen, despite the recent warm temperatures.
This was stated by Yuriy Boyko, a member of the supervisory board of NEC "Ukrenergo," in an interview with a business publication.
Currently, the population experiences minimal power outages, with restrictions mainly affecting businesses and industries.
"The situation may change in March and April. Planned repairs will begin at our nuclear power plants after winter. The shutdown of a 1000 MW unit represents a significant loss for our energy system in its current state. I am not confident that we can easily replace such a power unit, especially not multiple ones. The hydropower resource this year is significantly lower due to the mild, snowless winter," Boyko stated.
He believes that strict measures to conserve electricity will be necessary to avoid outages.
Moreover, he suggests that increasing electricity imports could be essential.
Reminder:
NEC "Ukrenergo" urges businesses to connect their backup generators to the national energy system.
