A tragic incident occurred in the Spanish capital, Madrid, where a partial collapse of a multi-story building under renovation resulted in four fatalities. This was reported by DW news agency.
The collapse happened on Tuesday afternoon, and by early Wednesday morning, rescue teams recovered the bodies of two individuals who were previously reported missing. Additionally, two more bodies were found late Tuesday night.
At least three people were injured, including one person who was hospitalized with a broken leg.
Around 30-40 workers were on-site in the building, which was being renovated into a four-star hotel.
“Several ceiling structures of the building under renovation collapsed,” stated Beatriz Martín, spokesperson for Madrid's emergency services, adding that it is still too early to discuss the causes of the accident.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion and seeing thick smoke as the building collapsed.
