According to the publication, Greater Manchester police responded to a call at 09:31 AM local time, after a witness saw a vehicle hit pedestrians, and one man sustained stab wounds.
In light of the stabbing report, armed police were dispatched to the scene. Shortly thereafter, Manchester police declared a "serious incident".
"At 09:38 AM, armed officers from Greater Manchester opened fire. One man, believed to be the perpetrator, was shot," said a police spokesperson.
He added that medical personnel arrived to assist four individuals injured in the vehicle collision and knife attack. Citizens are advised to avoid the area while the police investigate the incident.
Meanwhile, the BBC reports that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is returning from Copenhagen due to the synagogue attack.
