IAEA has confirmed the seriousness of the situation at the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
«Following the directive of President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine is working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to engage international organizations in comprehensive awareness of the actions of the Russian occupiers at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, which pose a direct threat to nuclear and radiation safety not only for Ukraine but for the entire region», — stated the Ministry.
Currently, the plant in the occupied territory is operating solely on backup diesel generators, with fuel supplies sufficient for 10 days.
IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi emphasized that this situation is unstable from a nuclear safety perspective, as a complete shutdown of backup systems could lead to the risk of nuclear fuel meltdown.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine emphasized the urgent need to draw global attention to this situation.
