Turkey and the United States have announced a new phase of strategic cooperation in nuclear energy by signing a memorandum during the presidents' meeting at the White House. Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated in a social media post that this opens up new opportunities for collaboration.
“We have initiated a process that will further strengthen our partnership with the USA in nuclear energy. Following the presidents' meeting, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in civil nuclear energy,” said the minister.
The signing took place in the presence of the US president and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The minister expressed hope for mutually beneficial outcomes for both countries in the near future.
During the visit to the USA, the Turkish state energy company BOTAŞ signed agreements for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) with global energy companies for long terms, including a 20-year agreement with Mercuria for about 4 billion cubic meters of LNG annually starting in 2026.
