Restoration of Forests in Kyiv Using New Techniques

Kyiv is implementing a new forest restoration technology that supports ecology and nature conservation.

In the capital of Ukraine, at the Partisan Glory Park, an innovative greening method developed by a Japanese botanist has been introduced.
The Miyawaki method is one of the most modern approaches to restoring green areas on depleted lands. This technology was created by the Japanese scientist Akira Miyawaki. It mimics the natural forest formation process, ensuring rapid plant growth and significant carbon absorption. This was reported by the Darnytsia District Administration.
The main principle of the Miyawaki method is to use tree species that would naturally grow in the area, creating a diverse and multi-layered ecosystem. This results in a sustainable natural system where plants interact with each other.
As a result, a forest can form in 20–30 years instead of the traditional 150, making it particularly relevant for modern reforestation programs.
Kyivzelenbud plans to create such Miyawaki gardens in every district of the capital. This initiative was proposed in the Department of Ecology of the Kyiv City State Administration this year.
