An explosion at a coke plant in Pennsylvania, USA, has led to the death of one person and injuries to ten others.

This was reported by CNN and ABC News.

The incident occurred at the U.S. Steel facility in Clairton, near Pittsburgh.

Allegheny County police confirmed that one person died and ten were injured.

Additionally, rescue teams managed to free one individual from the debris, while another is currently unaccounted for.

According to local officials, there were several secondary explosions following the initial blast.

U.S. Steel CEO David Burritt stated that the company is cooperating with the relevant authorities to investigate the incident.

He noted that approximately 1,300 employees work at the Clairton plant.

Local authorities advised residents within a 1.6-kilometer radius of the plant to stay indoors, close windows and doors, and turn on air conditioning.

Meanwhile, the Allegheny Department of Health reported no air quality violations during their monitoring.
