The Gravelin nuclear power plant, France's largest, has suspended operations due to an influx of jellyfish clogging its cooling system.

This was reported by the operating company EDF.

Four out of six reactors were shut down on Sunday and Monday after jellyfish entered the cooling system. Reactors #2, #3, and #4 were turned off between 11 PM and midnight on Sunday night, while reactor #6 was shut down at 6:20 AM on Monday.

At the time of the incident, reactors #1 and #5 were undergoing scheduled maintenance. EDF explained that the jellyfish accumulation blocked the filter drums of the pumping stations located in the non-nuclear section of the plant.

The incident posed no threat to personnel, the environment, or the safety of the facility. Currently, diagnostics and technical work are being carried out to ensure a safe restart of the reactors.

The Gravelin nuclear power plant has a capacity of 5460 MW and is one of the largest in Europe, providing a significant portion of the region's electricity supply.
