On Saturday morning, July 26, a fierce wildfire broke out in the town of Pitsinades on the southern Greek island of Kythera, forcing local residents to evacuate.

The fire service deployed 28 firefighters, including a specialized forest operations unit, six fire trucks, volunteers, one helicopter, and two aircraft.
Additionally, seven firefighters were transported by ferry from Neapolis in southern Peloponnese.
Shortly after the fire started, the Greek emergency alert system 112 urged residents of Pitsinades to evacuate to the nearby village of Aroniadika. A second alert around noon advised residents of Aroniadika to move to Frilianika.
The third alert came around 1:00 PM, calling on residents of the area of Arai to head to Livadi as the fire continued to spread.
There is currently no information about injuries or property damage. Firefighting efforts are ongoing despite changing wind conditions.
