Natural Disasters in South Korea: Rising Casualties and Destruction

The number of casualties from natural disasters in South Korea has increased due to heavy rains and landslides.

In South Korea, the death toll from floods and landslides has risen to at least ten, with nine people reported missing.

This has been reported by the Yonhap news agency.

According to the latest data from the government, as of Sunday morning, the southern and southwestern regions continue to suffer the most, with almost 800 millimeters of rainfall recorded over the past four days in some areas.

It is noted that nearly 2,000 incidents of road and highway flooding have been registered, along with landslides and ground subsidence, destruction of public infrastructure, and over 2,200 cases of damage to private property, including buildings and agricultural land.

As of Sunday morning, about 13,000 people have been evacuated from danger zones to larger cities and towns.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing in the affected areas, and authorities warn that casualty figures may change.

According to meteorologists, heavy rains are forecasted to shift north towards the capital region of Seoul and the neighboring Gangwon province.

In the southern and western regions of South Korea, at least four people have died due to natural disasters caused by the heavy rains, and more than 7,000 residents are seeking temporary shelter.
