A new bridge over the Danube is set to be built in the southern part of the Odesa region.

This has been reported by the CTAS.

The bridge will be located in the village of Orlivka in the Izmail district and will connect Ukrainian territory to the Romanian city of Isakcha on the opposite bank.

The project is part of the Recovery and Development Strategy for the region for 2025-2027, published on the Odesa Regional Council's website.

This bridge will be part of the international route E87, connecting Ukraine with Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey.

Currently, drivers have to make a long detour through Moldova, crossing the border twice. The new bridge will reduce the distance to Isakcha by approximately 80 kilometers.

The construction of the Orlivka-Isakcha bridge over the Danube is intended to be part of a major southern transport corridor, linking Ukraine to the European Union via Romania.

Funding for the bridge construction is planned through international assistance—over 12.6 billion hryvnias over three years. In 2025, 1.26 billion will be allocated, in 2026 nearly 3.8 billion, and in 2027 over 7.5 billion hryvnias.

Next steps include design work, environmental studies, the actual construction of the bridge, access roads, and the establishment of border crossing points and connections to international routes.

The future bridge will have four lanes, pedestrian sidewalks on both sides, and will be resilient to earthquakes of up to 9 points.

On the Ukrainian side, a 3 km access road will be constructed, while on the Romanian side, it will be 950 meters long.
