The Swedish government is introducing a new annual award for volunteers actively supporting Ukraine.

This was announced in an official statement from the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

New Award for Ukrainian Volunteers

“The ministry announces the start of nominations for a new annual award aimed at recognizing Swedish non-governmental initiatives for Ukraine. This year, the award will be granted to a Swedish organization and an individual or group that has undertaken significant projects for Ukraine. The laureate will also receive funding to continue their initiatives,” it states in the press release.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that support for Ukraine is more crucial than ever, and the Swedish government’s efforts in this regard are continuously growing.

“Recently, the government unveiled the largest packages for civilian and military assistance. The whole of Sweden stands united in support of Ukraine, including volunteers. The government aims to highlight and support these efforts with a new award,” the statement reads.

The award can be granted to individual volunteers, businesses, non-governmental organizations, municipalities, educational institutions, and many others who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to supporting Ukraine.

Under the directive of the Swedish government, the Swedish Institute has been tasked with establishing and administering the award. The names of the laureates will be announced later this year.

The winning organization will receive a monetary prize of approximately 1.8 million Swedish kronor, while individual winners or groups will receive up to 200,000 Swedish kronor.

This funding is intended to allow the laureates to continue and expand their projects aimed at helping Ukraine.

“Choosing the winners of this award will be challenging due to the many strong individuals in our society who have undertaken numerous initiatives for Ukraine. By highlighting these exceptional examples, the government, in collaboration with the Swedish Institute, hopes to inspire continued and broader volunteer engagement for Ukraine,” emphasized Benjamin Dusa, the Swedish Minister for International Cooperation and Foreign Trade.
