Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov confirmed that talks in Istanbul focused on the possibility of a prisoner exchange, potentially in a “1000 for 1000” format.

They also discussed potential meetings between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Umerov on the Negotiations with Russia

Umerov stated, “We talked about the exchange of 1000 for 1000”.

When asked about next steps in the negotiation process, Umerov said, “First, we need to focus on the prisoner exchange”.

He added, “We will inform you of our next steps shortly”.

The minister also noted that the delegations from Ukraine and Russia discussed a ceasefire.
