On May 14, Wednesday, the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (GUR) unveiled its latest naval drones, which have already proven their effectiveness by destroying numerous Russian ships, planes, and helicopters, reports a journalist from Kyiv Post who attended the event at a secret location in Ukraine's capital.

The Magura naval drones represent cutting-edge technological weaponry, enabling the GUR special forces, Group 13, to significantly alter the balance of power in the Black Sea in favor of Ukraine.

The head of GUR, Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, was also present at the classified presentation.

The Ukrainian intelligence agency publicly showcased a series of strike naval drones, Magura:

  • the notorious “killer” of the Russian Black Sea fleet ships, Magura V5, which serves as Ukraine's primary naval drone against the Russian fleet, capable of carrying up to 320 kg of payload and equipped with a combat module with a machine gun.
  • the multifunctional Magura V6P platform, with a range of 540 nautical miles.
  • the missile carrier drone Magura V7, which made history by destroying an enemy combat aircraft for the first time. This drone can carry up to 650 kg of payload and boasts a range of up to 800 nautical miles.
  • the Magura V7 model, fitted with a combat machine gun module.

The Magura naval drones are a new type of technological weaponry, allowing the GUR special forces Group 13 to strategically tilt the situation in the Black Sea in favor of Ukraine.

Operators from the unit present at the event assure that this is just the beginning for the Russian fleet, emphasizing that the future of warfare lies in advanced technology.

“We can confidently say - the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Group 13, have pushed the Russian Black Sea fleet back to their base points.

They are limited in their actions, they are not accomplishing any tasks as intended,” said the commander of Group 13, known by the call sign “Thirteenth”.

“On December 31, 2024, I believe a turning point occurred in the history of the fleet - two Russian Mi-8 helicopters were destroyed, one was damaged. Also, as you know, we downed two planes.”

In two years of combat operations using various modifications of the Magura naval drone, the Ukrainian military intelligence has destroyed or incapacitated 17 Russian maritime and aerial targets, including two Mi-8 helicopters, two Su-30 fighter jets, as well as significant vessels of the Russian Black Sea fleet - “Sergei Kotov”, “Ivanovets”, “Tsesar Kunikov”, and others. The total enemy losses are estimated at over 500 million dollars.

The Russian fleet continues to unlawfully operate in Ukrainian waters, primarily in the area of temporarily occupied Crimea.

Ukrainian forces regularly strike at military ships and bases of the Russian Black Sea fleet, utilizing precision missiles, naval drones, and UAVs. These strikes have forced Russia to partially relocate some ships from Crimea to Novorossiysk.
