The shortlist for one of the world’s most prestigious literary awards – the Booker Prize 2025 – has been announced, featuring six publications.

"These books explore survival and self-preservation – they reflect our unyielding instinct to push forward in the face of disaster, oppression, extinction, or despair. In a world that often seems filled with hopelessness, this shortlist celebrates the human spirit – our resilience and our drive for a better life," the jury explained.
The Booker Prize 2025 shortlist:
"On the Calculation of Volume I" by Solveig Balle, translated by Barbara Jay Gaevland;
"Small Boat" by Vincent Delacroix, translated by Helen Stevenson;
"Under the Eye of the Big Bird" by Hiromi Kawakami, translated by Asa Yoneda;
"Perfection" by Vincenzo Latronico, translated by Sophie Hughes;
"Heart Lamp" by Banu Mushtak, translated by Deepa Bhaskaran;
"A Leopard-Skin Hat" by Anne Serre, translated by Mark Hutchinson.
About the International Booker Prize
The International Booker Prize is one of the most prestigious book awards, established in 2004 as a complement to the Booker Prize. The first winner was the Albanian writer Ismail Kadare.
The 2022 International Booker Prize was awarded to Indian author Geetanjali Shree for her novel "Tomb of Sand".
In 2023, the longlist included the book "The Lviv Tour of Jimi Hendrix" by Ukrainian author Andriy Kurkov, though it did not make the shortlist.
The 2023 International Booker Prize was awarded to Bulgarian author Georgi Gospodinov for his novel "Time Shelter".
In 2024, Kurkov’s novel "Samson and Nadia" again made the longlist, but the prize went to German author Jenny Erpenbeck for her novel "Kairos".
