In Kyiv, the first Green Flag in Ukraine was raised on Obolon Island — a prestigious international environmental award confirming that the leisure spot meets high standards of management and ecological safety. This was reported by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko on Telegram.
«The Green Flag Award is a recognized international accolade that our island has received. It confirms that this beloved leisure destination for Kyiv residents meets international standards of safety and ecological quality. This is Ukraine's first participation in this program», - he emphasized.
Klitschko noted that the award was established in 1996 and sets quality standards for managing parks and natural areas.
The achievement is administered by the organization Keep Britain Tidy under the license of the British government.
An online evaluation took place at the end of July with the participation of international judges, ensuring transparency in the process.
The event was organized by the Department of Environmental Protection and Climate Change Adaptation of the Kyiv City State Administration together with the municipal enterprise «Plesso».
The decision to award the island was made based on a thorough verification of the information provided.
«This award makes Obolon Island an even more attractive place for relaxation», - Klitschko stated.
Last year, the construction of a wave pedestrian bridge connecting the «Natalka» park and Obolon Island was completed.
