Kyiv invests in safe educational facilities to protect students during wartime.

Creating a secure educational environment is vital for the capital of Ukraine during wartime. This was highlighted by Valentyn Mondriivskyi, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, on his Facebook page.

In 2024, it is planned to allocate 1,300,277 thousand UAH for the reconstruction and construction of educational institutions. For the repairs of kindergartens and schools, 1,986,961 thousand UAH has been allocated.

“The majority of these funds will be directed towards the establishment of shelters, a portion for roof repairs, and the remainder for window replacements, facade insulation, and engineering system modernization. Kyiv has over a thousand educational institutions, so the amounts seem considerable. However, all these measures have a single goal: to create a safe educational environment,” noted Valentyn Mondriivskyi.

He provided an example that in the Darnytsia district, the repair of shelters in 64 educational institutions has been completed, and the construction of three new shelters is ongoing. Energy-saving measures (capital repairs of facades and roofs) are being implemented in 21 institutions. Additionally, two kindergartens requiring complete restoration are being renovated.

In the Holosiivskyi district, the construction of four new shelters and the reconstruction of a school with an attached shelter is ongoing. Furthermore, 29 educational institutions are renovating shelters, 28 are implementing energy efficiency measures, and 18 are undertaking major repairs of engineering networks.

In three schools of the Dnipro district, dual-purpose structures with anti-radiation properties are being built. Shelters are being repaired in 52 educational institutions, and energy efficiency measures are being implemented in 55.

Valentyn Mondriivskyi emphasized that most of the new shelters are dual-purpose buildings that provide protection for both students and the civilian population.

Furthermore, he noted that Kyiv, as the largest city in Ukraine, has welcomed and facilitated the education of the highest number of internally displaced persons during the full-scale invasion. Therefore, comparing Kyiv with other cities during the tender review for the construction and reconstruction of educational institutions is inappropriate.
