On January 28, Lviv will celebrate the grand opening of the first UNESCO Cultural Hub in Ukraine, attended by distinguished guests, announced Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

About the UNESCO Cultural Hub in Lviv

«Today in Lviv, together with the Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications Mykola Tochitsky, we will welcome high-profile guests - my Spanish colleague Jose Manuel Albares and UNESCO's Director-General Audrey Azoulay - for the ceremonial opening of the first UNESCO Cultural Hub in Ukraine», wrote Sybiha.

He expressed his delight at starting his working day in Lviv by visiting his alma mater, Ivan Franko National University, and meeting with its administration and students.

Preserving UNESCO Heritage in Ukraine

In January, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine appealed to UNESCO to establish a mechanism for protecting historical buildings from destruction and creating a database of all structures needing restoration.

The Ministry aims to “create a mechanism for preserving and protecting the architectural integrity of streets in the historical center of the capital, regardless of the status or ownership of the buildings”.

On December 12, UNESCO took under its wing Babyn Yar and the Odessa Literary Museum, adding them to the list of world heritage sites requiring special protection.

On December 4, the first international element from Ukraine, in collaboration with Estonia, “Pysanka: The Ukrainian Tradition and Art of Egg Decoration”, was included in the intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
