The Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction, Minister of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine, Oleksii Kuleba, discussed the modernization of the railway infrastructure with Eximbank Korea in Seoul.
This meeting was part of the Ukrainian delegation's working visit to the Republic of Korea. During the discussions, the financing of 20 high-speed electric trains was on the agenda, which will significantly enhance passenger transport capacity and address the issue of seat shortages during peak times.
Kuleba also held talks with manufacturers of passenger rolling stock, presenting the vision for the future of Ukrainian railways and the need for fleet renewal.
The Ministry noted that Korea has already offered Ukraine a framework for concessional financing of up to $2.1 billion for the period from 2024 to 2029. This represents one of the largest financial support mechanisms for Ukraine from Asian partners. The first tranche of $100 million has already helped maintain financial stability amid the ongoing conflict.
Additionally, it is worth mentioning that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a draft letter to the government of the Republic of Korea on September 10, concerning the provision of a loan for the public investment project «Procurement of 20 High-Speed Electric Trains».
