The counterintelligence unit of the Security Service of Ukraine has detained another Russian agent in the Kyiv region. The perpetrator was hiding in the capital area after coordinating enemy fire in Donetsk. This was reported by the SBU.
According to the case materials, the detained individual is a 32-year-old miner from the temporarily occupied Novohrodivka.
Before the capture of the community, the occupiers recruited him into their agent network through the banned social network «Odnoklassniki». There, he was approached by a «handler» from the Russian military intelligence, who offered cooperation in exchange for virtual close relationships.
Agreeing to the «offer», the individual began monitoring and transmitting the locations of Defense Forces in the city and its outskirts to the occupiers.
The intelligence data obtained was used by the occupiers to plan airstrikes on the community with the aim of advancing in the Pokrovsk direction.
After the capture of Novohrodivka, the agent moved to the capital region, hoping to «lay low» and eventually continue his reconnaissance and sabotage activities in the interests of Russia.
SBU employees located the perpetrator and arrested him in the rented accommodation.
During the searches, a smartphone containing evidence of his collaboration with the occupiers was seized.
Currently, the investigators of the Security Service have informed the agent of suspicion under part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under martial law).
The perpetrator is in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with property confiscation.
Comprehensive measures were carried out by SBU employees in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk regional prosecutor's office.
