The Security Service of Ukraine has arrested another agent in Kyiv who was recruited by Russian intelligence. This 40-year-old individual worked in the information security department of a local bank.
According to cybersecurity experts, the agent was collecting sensitive information about the bank's clients, particularly military personnel and volunteers, who could be targeted for terrorist attacks and disinformation campaigns.
The SBU uncovered his activities and apprehended him at his residence.
During the search, four mobile phones, several SIM cards for concealment, and three laptops containing personal data of potential targets were seized. Contacts with FSB agents were also discovered.
The agent came to the attention of the enemy due to his activity on a banned social network.
After recruitment, he received tasks to conduct reconnaissance near the bases of Ukrainian forces in Kyiv.
He photographed buildings that he believed could be used by Ukrainian defenders.
Subsequently, he was assigned to collect information about bank clients among military personnel and volunteers opening accounts to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Additionally, he was to provide the occupiers with the coordinates of a backup data center housing the bank's database.
The investigation has already charged him under Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason in wartime).
The perpetrator is being held in custody without the right to bail, facing a life sentence with property confiscation.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
